Movie Night

Watched rainman today. found it to be a stunning display of acting,cinematography and music..especially considering the fact that the film was shot in the 1980s. Somewhere tom cruise's character as the snobby younger brother,matched upto what i imagine him to be in reality! And yea' i will accept that all the recent dustin hoffman movies i've watched might've made me partial to his role and how he executed it- but even then, the man was top class! Though somehow it kept coming to me, that Sean Penn played the role of sam in "I am Sam' with greater panache' the retard-ness of his charcter was extremely well portrayed. and perhaps hoffman lacked that miniscule bit of expression that convinces the audience that he's not doing it for the camera alone, and probably was just born this way ! But then again, boith the charcters had very different types of mental deprivations. You must've noticed by now how i have taken care not to mention the dakota fanning aspect of ' i am sam'- which happens to be 'the' aspect for certain people. its just that, that little girl gives me the creeps- i have no reason nor rhyme for my bias- but yes, she scares me and i find her,even just as an actress very cold..but i guess,i'm just being too scrutnising.A friend of mine suggests that the fear probably has something to do with ,her 'german descent and blue eyes'..truth of the fact is, i can't really deny that! I should really get over my habit of judging people so much ! doesn't do me any good ..infact, lands me in a soup every now and then !

Got reprimanded at posting today. Any guesses why ?? Happened to smile,giggle and discuss an answer before 'presenting' it to the prof. ....was very "un professional" of us...apparently.Well didn't have to stand in the guilt of that crime for too long since, soon afterward the prof walked off coz' we weren't able to answer his next question., leaving us with the wisdom of the ages - "Grow Up" !

That's a view from one of the many corridors of the Lady Goschen Hospital, where i'm posted presently,for my OBG postings..Somehow i really really like it. especially that well in the corner. i took it while it was pouring, ofcourse that isn't obvious in the pic- but trust me it was the best thing in the scenery at the time! Saw four c-sections back to back the other day in the OT. it kind of saddened me not to see even a faint smile on the mother's face. i don't think their senses were that numbed, seeing that they were just given spinal anesthesia.. somehow a birth always seemed to be associated with unparallel joy and...a flood of untangible emotions..courtesy of movies and books. thus, this cold atmosphere that didn't have the faintest feel of a celebration,disheartened me... In the words of my expectant aunt; "Pregnancy is highly over-rated!" :) However, the procedure in itself, just to watch,is pretty humbling (only the first few births, after that u start hoping the surgeon would just hurry up with the slicing n suturing!) the vision of tht black hair covered head in the abdomen, accompanied by the oozing of blood and amniotic fluid, and the 4-5 people directly involved in pulling it out of a 10 cm incison, is good enough to leave you gaping -its a good thing we wear masks within the OT..

It rains a lot in Mangalore. A lot. that's what i love most about the place...During the monsoon the entire place is awash..and that happens like 2-3 times in a day! From buldings,to roads, to the trees, billboards, the stray cats and dogs, you,me,and everything else...
